You can extend your support before it expires, or renew it after — both add 6 months, with the price depending on timing. This guide covers your options, pricing, and the exact steps.
New to item support? See What is Item Support, and what's included? for the full definition and the Item Support Policy for complete terms.
What are my item support options?
Your options depend on when you make the purchase:
- Support upgrade — 6 months of additional support, purchased at the same time as the item.
- Support extension — 6 months of support, purchased any time before your current support period expires.
- Support renewal — 6 months of support, purchased after your existing support has expired.
To be eligible:
- Extensions require less than 6 months of remaining support, and the author must still support the item.
- Renewals require your support to have already expired, and the author must still support the item.
Purchase either from your Downloads or the item's page. Support cost is calculated as a percentage of the item price.
How much does 6 months of item support cost?
| Timing | Type | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| At purchase | Support Upgrade | 37.5% of item price |
| Before expiry | Support Extension | 62.5% of item price |
| After expiry | Support Renewal | 87.5% of item price |

- Find the item in your downloads list.
- Click Extend now next to the item.
How do I renew my item support?

- Log in to your account.
- Hover over your username and select Downloads.
- Find the item in your downloads list.
- Click Renew support now! next to the item.
Why can't I extend or renew support for an item?
There are two possible reasons:
- You have more than 6 months of support remaining on your current support grant, or
- The author has chosen to stop supporting the item.

If an author is no longer offering support, this will be noted on the item's page, and the extend/renew option won't be available. Any support you already have remaining will still be honored by the author.
Authors stop supporting items for various reasons — sometimes simply a lack of time, sometimes because they're retiring the item. If you're unsure, check the item's Comments tab and FAQ section before submitting a support ticket.
