This glossary explains the key terms you'll see on your Envato Market statement — from purchases and orders to fees, invoices, and refunds.
What is a purchase?
A purchase happens when you buy an item license from an author on Envato Market. The total price includes the license price (paid to the author), Envato's Buyer Fee, and a Handling Fee (if applicable to your order). You can complete multiple purchases in a single checkout using the shopping cart.
What is an order?
An order is made up of one or more purchases completed in a single checkout. Every checkout is assigned a unique Order ID, which applies to all item licenses and buyer fees included in that transaction. Depending on your payment method and order total, your order may also include a handling fee.
What is a reversal, and how does it relate to refunds?
A reversal occurs when a purchase is refunded, or reversed due to a chargeback. Every reversal appears on the buyer's statement along with an accompanying credit note.
- For author-initiated refunds, the reversal and credit note appear on the author's statement too.
- For "goodwill" refunds issued directly by Envato, the author's statement and balance remain unchanged — the credit note is generated by Envato to the buyer only.
What is referral income?
If you're part of Envato's Affiliate Program, you earn a commission on the first purchase made by each new customer who arrives via your affiliate link. These earnings are called Referral Income.
What is an invoice?
An invoice is generated for every item or service sold on Envato Market. It includes the date, invoice ID, order ID, seller and buyer details, item details (name, ID, license type, size, and price), and the total price in USD.
What is a statement?
Your statement lists all activity affecting your account balance — including sales, purchases, referral earnings, and reversals.
What is a credit note?
A credit note reverses a previously issued invoice. It's generated whenever a transaction is canceled or voided.
What makes up the total price of a purchase?
The total price you pay includes the Item Price (paid to the author) plus Envato's Buyer Fee and Handling Fee, where applicable.
What is the item price?
The Item Price is the amount paid to the author for the item license itself.
How much is the handling fee?
The handling fee is charged per order, not per item:
| Order total | Handling fee |
|---|---|
| Under $10 | $1 |
| $10 – $150 | $3 |
| Over $150 | No handling fee |
What is the list price?
The List Price is the price shown on an item's page — it includes the Item Price plus the Buyer Fee.
What is the buyer fee?
The Buyer Fee is what you pay Envato (separate from the author's price) for platform services, including 24/7 buyer support, fraud protection, and item quality control.
