Download your kit without unzipping it, install the required plugins, then import it through the Template Kit Import plugin — here's the complete walkthrough from setup to your first published page.
Before you begin: is this an Elementor Template Kit?
Only items listed under Elementor > Template Kits on ThemeForest — with "Elementor Template Kit" in the title and filename — work with this plugin. It cannot install WordPress Themes, HTML Templates, Site Templates, or UI/UX Templates.
Wrong file type, or getting a zip/upload error already? See Template Kit zip and file format errors for detailed compatibility checks.
How do I install the Envato WordPress plugin?
You don't need an Envato subscription to use a kit purchased on ThemeForest, but you may need Elementor Pro — check the item description for plugin requirements.
- Download your kit file from your ThemeForest dashboard and do not unzip it. (Safari users: disable "Open Safe Files after Downloading" in Preferences first.)
- Go to Settings > Permalinks, select Post Name, and click Save.
- Go to Appearance > Themes > Add New and ensure Hello Elementor is installed and activated.
- When prompted, click Install, then Activate the Elementor Page Builder plugin.
(Close the Elementor signup page if it appears.) - Go to Elementor > Settings > Features, and ensure Flexbox Container shows green/Active. Required for all kits published after Oct 1, 2023.
- Go to Elementor > System Info and confirm your server meets Elementor's minimum requirements. (See note on PHP version below.)
- Go to Plugins > Add New, search "Envato," then Install and Activate the Template Kit Import plugin.
- If your kit requires Elementor Pro, install and connect it before continuing.
How do I import my kit?
-
Go to Tools > Template Kit and click Upload Template Kit ZIP File.
Getting an invalid zip or PHP Zip extension error? See Template Kit zip and file format errors.
Seeing a "This kit is in the newer 'Elementor Kit' format" message?
This means it's an Elementor Full Site Kit — a special format for fresh WordPress installs that doesn't use the Envato Elements plugin (title/filename will say "Full Site Kit," and it requires Elementor Pro). Don't re-download the zip — go to Elementor > Tools > Import and follow the prompts using your original downloaded file instead.
- If an orange banner appears, click Install Requirements to load kit addons and settings.
- Click Import on Global Kit Styles first (sets colors, fonts, site settings), then click Import Template on each template in order.
Getting an import error at this stage? This is usually a hosting configuration issue — see Template Kit import troubleshooting.
That's it — you're ready to start building. A few notes on where things land:
- Templates are stored under Templates > Saved Templates — insert into a new page before customizing.
- Blocks, tabs, or slides are also under Templates > Saved Templates — duplicate and customize directly.
- Elementor Pro site parts are under Templates > Theme Builder — customize directly.
How do I create pages using my imported kit?
- Go to Pages > Add New Page, add a title, and click Edit with Elementor. (Close any Elementor popups that appear.)
- Click the Envato icon in the builder area, or the folder icon for the Elementor Template Library panel on slower connections.
- Click View Installed Kit, confirm the template is a Page or Container type, then click Insert Template.
- No "Page Template" label? No need to worry.
- Other template types are customized via Elementor Pro's Theme Builder.
- Button says "Import Template" instead of "Insert"? Go back to Tools > Template Kit and run the import first.
- If asked to "Apply the Settings of the Page too?", click Do not Apply.
- Click the gear icon in the Elementor panel to open Page Settings.
- Set Page Layout to Elementor Full Width — this keeps your global header/footer working and removes the default page title.
- (Kit includes alternate headers for special layouts? Use Elementor Canvas to hide the global header instead.)
How do I set up forms, slides, and tab blocks?
Your kit may include content-block templates (forms, tabs, slides, or Pro loops) used with content widgets — just select the right block in the widget settings when customizing. Check your kit's item page for specific usage instructions, and see Elementor's guide to Loop Grids.
How do I set up my header and footer?
- Your navigation menu is created under Appearance > Menus.
- Elementor Pro kits set up headers/footers automatically under Templates > Theme Builder. Not seeing it? Confirm Page Layout is Elementor Full Width and the Header Template condition is Entire Site.
- Non-Pro kits use alternative setup methods — check your kit's item page for instructions.
How do I set my homepage?
Go to Settings > Reading, select Static Front Page, and choose your page.
Where do I get help?
If you hit an error while importing, click Show Debug Details and email the log, your kit name, and your URL to the address shown on the error message — or see Template Kit import troubleshooting.
For help customizing templates or using Elementor itself, go to Elementor > Get Help in your WordPress admin.
