These errors almost always mean either the wrong file type was uploaded, the file was modified after download, or your server can't process zip files — here's how to identify and fix each case.
You might see any of these messages:
- "Please upload a valid Template Kit zip file"
- "Failed to process ZIP file, please ensure the selected file is the correct Template Kit format"
- "PHP Zip Extension not loaded"
Is my item actually an Elementor Template Kit?
The Template Kit Import plugin only works with items listed under Elementor > Template Kits on ThemeForest, with "Elementor Template Kit" in the title and description.
- Item says "WordPress Theme"? See How to Install a WordPress Theme from ThemeForest instead — Elementor Template Kits contain design data for the Elementor Page Builder only, while WordPress Themes are a different, legacy framework that may or may not include Elementor.
- Item says "Site Template," "Bootstrap Template," "HTML Template," "XD Template," or similar? These aren't compatible with WordPress and can't be installed with this plugin.
My file looks correct — why is it still failing?
The "Failed to process ZIP file" error specifically usually means the file itself was altered after download — for example, unzipped and re-zipped, or converted to a different archive format like .7zip or .rar.
Fix: Re-download your file and do not unzip, rename, or modify it in any way. (Safari users: disable "Open Safe Files after downloading" in Preferences first.) Then follow How to Upload & Install Elementor Template Kits from Envato.
Why does it say the PHP Zip extension isn't loaded?
This means your server's PHP installation is missing the Zip extension it needs to process the file.
To check: Go to Elementor > System Info and confirm "Zip Installed" shows Yes. If it shows No, the extension needs to be enabled on your server.
General steps (most hosts):
- Log in to your hosting account.
- Open cPanel Admin.
- Under "Software," click Select PHP Version.
- Find "zip" and check the box to enable it.
Don't see these options, or unsure how to proceed? Contact your web host — this is a server-level setting they can adjust for you.
What PHP version do I need?
PHP 7.4 and above. Also confirm:
- open_basedir is disabled.
- allow_url_fopen is set to ON.
- upload_max_filesize is 64MB or higher (recommended).
Check these under Elementor > System Info, or ask your hosting provider if you're not sure where to look.
